We all have goals we aspire for in this life.
Many of these goals are common among many people . For example, every body wants happiness, and most people want to be rich. And that's ok.
What's not ok is failing to take your uniqueness and individuality into consideration.
"I want to be rich like Ahmed," does not equate to, "I will do exactly as Ahmed did to be rich."
Being different means you have your own unique gifts as well your own individual weaknesses.
Maybe Ahmed could have been a lot richer if he had your gifts, so why cut yourself short; pursue the path that he couldn't take.
Maybe Ahmed has something that you don't have. Admit it. It's called being human! No one has everything. Why follow a path you were never made to pursue. Just imagine an eagle trying to dive into the water to catch fish, or a shark trying to hunt birds!
Realizing your strong points as well as your weak ones could be your best chance for outstanding success instead of mediocre results or outright failure.
The Prophet Salla Allah Allah Wa Sallam in different occasions indicated different deeds to be the best or most favored by Allah. Once he said, "obedience to your parents." Another he said, "Jihad." Yet another's he said, "Prayer at the beginning of its time." Dhiker, controlling your anger, and controlling ones tongue were also mentioned.
Here the prophet is taking into consideration the ability of the person he is speaking to, the time and place at which the questioned was asked, and the state or condition of the person at the time of the question.
Prophets themselves were not the same. Some scholars say that the traits of a prophet were a factor in choosing to send a certain prophet to a specific people. Mosa and Bani Israel is prime example.
The companions of the prophet also excelled in different fields.
Additionally, in Islam the quality of your deeds is more important than the quantity. And quality has a lot to do with exerting your effort in what you do best.
So, be flexible. Be yourself.
You'll be happier and get more good deeds!
But how do you know if the path you are pursuing is the right one for you.
In real life how would you decide if a road is wrong? By ruling out all the other factors!
For example, you are lost, and you make the best possible guess about he right rout to take. When night falls, and you get lost again, do you give up on that path and choose another one, or do you sleep till daybreak and check if you are just of track? Do you give up when it starts to rain because walking has become too hard and the ground has become muddy, or do you wait until the sun shines again and dries up the ground?
You stop pursuing a certain path only when according to your calculations you should have reached your destination by now. If you're not getting there, then there is a strong possibility you're on the wrong track.
Same thing with life. Make an intelligent guess on the best way to achieve something given the abilities you have and don't have. Then give it your best. If it is just not happening, if you're just not getting there no matter how hard you try, then reevaluate the path you have taken.
The Road Not Taken
BY Robert Frost (1874–1963).
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
