Celebrating Happy People

Most of the time, we celebrate people who have acquired sensual pleasure, namely the rich and famous. The people we should really be focusing on are the truly happy, don't you think?

I mean if you ask anybody about what he is searching for in this life, he would answer "Happiness!" Ok… so, why are after fame and fortune. I mean you know that they don't necessarily lead to happiness. I guess it's probably due to social conditioning and our own innate lust for pleasure.

But again, how would we identify happy people? Fame and wealth have clear benchmarks by which we can judge, but happiness… that's tough.

But for the sake of argument, say we could find a way to identify happy and content people, who would they be. I think the result would be very reveling and perhaps hard for us to accept.

What if we found that the happy person we are looking for was that janitor working in the office? Would we really be willing to undertake the necessary change to be as happy as he is? This wouldn't necessarily mean that we become poor or we change our occupation, but it would mean that we would have change the things we want and the way we see the world, which could or could not make us as poor as he is, but would make us as happy. So, would we do it?

What I want to say is there is so much of life out there that we just don't register; that we don't see because our focus is on other aspects of life that really don't matter. We are functionally blind to what really makes us happy. In the end it's a choice; do you choose happiness regardless of sensual pleasure or not, or do you choose pleasure regardless of happiness or not.
